What to expect at the Library
Library Social Stories
What is a Social Story?
A Social Story walks a person through what to expect out of a new experience. Our Library Social Stories are small booklets or slideshows about what a person will see and hear at the library; what rules a person needs to follow; and what more the library offers to do, use, and experience in addition to books.
Who can it help?
A Social Story can help anyone! It is especially meant to help people with autism, ADHD, and/or anxiety feel comfortable with new experiences or visits to new places. However, our Social Story can also be used by people who are new to the community and want to know what the library offers, people visiting Platteville who want to take a virtual tour before visiting, parents and caregivers who want to prepare their children for a visit to the library, and more!
Which Social Story is best for me?
We have a Social Story for Children, which caregivers can use to prepare children for a visit to the library, and a Social Story for Adults, which adults can use to view ahead of time what services and opportunities the library offers.
How can I access the Social Stories?
You can view the Social Stories as a slideshow right here on this webpage; you can click on the link to download and/or print the Social Stories; or you can find physical copies at the library available for checkout or for use in the library.
