1000 Books Before Kindergarten
What is it?
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your child.
The goal is to read 1,000 books before your child starts Kindergarten.
Why should my child and I participate?
With every book that you read together, you are launching your child’s learning – and learning begins long before kindergarten. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is an easy way to give your child a great jump start. Plus, when you’ve reached 500 and 1,000 books there will be a special prize!
How do we do this?
- Visit plattevillepubliclibrary.beanstack.com or download the Beanstack Tracker App (App Store / Google Play store) and sign up for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge.
- Read with your child.
- Track your progress in the app. You don’t have to keep track of titles or pages.
- When your child earns a sticker, they can collect it at the library.
- Repeat the process until you’ve reached 1,000 books!
Who can participate?
Any child who has not yet entered kindergarten.
Can the same book count more than once?
Yes. Studies show repetitious reading is good for children. Every time any book is read to your child it counts. Wordless books too!
How long will it take?
1,000 Books is a self-paced program. It can take anywhere from a few months to 5 years. Reading 3 books a day will get you there in less than a year. The only deadline is your child’s first day of kindergarten.
